Making a cat fountain

It costs about as much as the cheapest water dispenser to make your own - and if you make it you can build in quality and the features you want. I am making a fountain for my cat. it is surprisingly easy. what you need:


1) a basin of some sort - the basin needs to be close enough to the ground so your cat can comfortably drink and it needs to be deep enough to sccomodate a pump


2) material to add weight to the base of the basin, and stabilize the pump - whatever you choose to use you need to make sure it is safe to drink from and that it a) does not impart chemicals to the water and b) that the surfaces are smooth enouph to lick


3) a water pump that will pump water from the bottom of the fountain out of a tube at the top


4) a water filter or a way to filter the water - some people preferr to use filtered water in their pet dishes and change and clean the dishes often.. others preferr to use a "fish tank" filter on the intake "mouth"
